Increasing train speed is a challenge before railways: MoS Railways

To increase train speed and carry out heavy haul operation on the existing track safely are major challenges before the railways which need improvement in certain areas, Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said on February 7.

“Increase in speed of trains and operation of higher axle loads on existing network in safe and efficient manner are the major challenges,” Sinha said.

“To meet the challenges, the system is trying to keep abreast with the latest technological developments in the world but there are areas where we need to improve,” he said at the valedictory session of the two-day national technical seminar here.

Acknowledging the unmanned level crossings as “safety hazard” in railway system, Sinha said “There is definitely a felt need to replace level crossings with ROBs/RUBs.”
