In peak season, Goa seeing fewer tourists

PANAJI

Tourism stakeholders, who recently formed an association comprising associations of shack operators, tourist taxi operators, private shack operators, and other trades, have objected to tourism minister Dilip Parulekar’s statement made last week that all hotels are full in December, and there are no rooms available for booking.

Dharmesh Saglani, president of private shack owners association, told The Times of India on Monday, the truth is different from what the tourism minister has said. He said though it is peak season, occupancy in hotels in less than 40% and this is true for all categories of hotels.

“The tourism minister should show us where are those tourists,” he said, adding tourism stakeholders have formed an association to highlight their problems.

Even though it is now middle of the season, he said many private shack operators have not got NOCs and they are still made to run from pillar-to-post.
