Hyderabad’s Bapu Ghat to get a facelift soon

HYDERABAD

Bapu Ghat at Langer Houz will get a facelift, to be modelled on the lines of Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad (Gujarat), to turn it into a tourist destination. VVIPs make a beeline to Bapu Ghat, located on the shore of the Musi, only on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth (October 2) and death (January 30) anniversaries and ignore it all round the year.

The Telangana government plans to develop the 68-acre Bapu Ghat on the lines of Sabarmati Ashram. As of now, a huge Gandhi statue (similar to the one unveiled in front of the assembly), a meditation hall, where bhajans and keertans are rendered during anniversaries, and lush green lawns were developed in 15-acre land. The meditation hall also has a collection of over 200 images of Gandhi from pre-independence era mounted on a wall.
