Hyd stops permission for installing idol

HYDERABAD
The Lake Protection Committee of HMDA on Thursday instructed its staff not to allow any illegal construction on the lake bed of Durgam Cheruvu.

The panel’s direction comes in the wake of public outcry over the attempt of a local TV channel to build a huge iron frame in Durgam Cheruvu for putting up a Ganesh idol. Water was being pumped out from the lake with the help of about five pumpsets to facilitate the construction of the frame.

Residents of Madhapur and Jubilee Hills along with Save Our Urban Lakes organization activists protested against the illegal activity on the lake and took up the matter with different government departments including the HMDA, AP Tourism Development Corporation, irrigation and police.
