GTA to invest heavily to promote rural tourism

GTA chief executive Bimal Gurung on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a Rs4 crore rural electrification project in 10 villages of Relling-Kaijalay constituency under the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyut Yojna. He also inaugurated a nine-day Agricultural and Tourism Festival at Maghaytar, 5km above Kaijalay, to highlight the area as a potential tourist destination.

Executive engineer Deepak Pradhan of the GTA power department said the scheme will provide electricity to 2,800 households including 1,300 BPL families in the 10 villages of Samalbong, Ananden, Thunbayak Nore, Bahungaon, Thapagaon, Suntalay, Purbong, Gairigaon, Bihbaray and Naya Busty. “Although the project is expected to be completed by December 15, we are targeting the Durga puja festival time,” he said, reports Echo of India.

Meanwhile,the GTA chief told reporters: “We want to bring Maghaytar into the limelight as it is blessed with natural beauty. The festival is an effort to promote the place and plans are in place to develop the area into a world class tourist spot.”
