The territorial administration will write to the management of Spicejet urging it to continue commercial flights between Puducherry and Bangalore, said W.V.R. Murthy, Secretary, Tourism.
On the reported move of Spicejet to discontinue its service from February, he told The Hindu that the government made a lot of effort to find an airliner to make the Puducherry airport functional. It would take steps to sustain the flight service. Informal communication had already started. The government would take up the issue with Spicejet management shortly.
Stating that the government had already passed an order enabling senior officials to fly from Puducherry so as to improve occupancy rate, Mr. Murthy said the airline, which was operating three days a week initially, increased it to six days a week. He was not aware of the actual reason for Spicejet’s latest decision.
