Goa’s travel hostesses are raring to go

PANAJI

Following an initial spell of apprehension, the ten women travel hostesses selected by the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) to operate its all-women tourist taxi services, are now anything but nervous. Having received a lot of positive feedback from their patrons – both men and women – they say they are raring to go.

Travel hostess Maria Almeida, for instance, was beaming as she shared people’s reactions to her operating as a full-fledged professional driver. “Well, some people tend to stare when they see us driving around. But many have congratulated us for taking up this job,” she chuckles, reports Times of India.

Interestingly, Maria acquired a commercial driver’s licence in 1995, soon after completing her graduation. Although she served as an office secretary for some years after that, she says that driving has always been her passion. It’s no wonder then, that she chose to apply for the post of a woman taxi driver as soon as the GTDC began its advertising campaign.
