Goa tourist arrival double since 2011

Goa is fast becoming India’s holiday capital if one goes by statistics released by the Goa State Tourism Corporation (GTDC). Between January and September this year, the state recorded the highest number of domestic and international arrivals since 2011. In the similar period in 2011, about 12 lakh domestic visitors came to the state. In 2013, this figure has doubled to over 24.8 lakh tourists.Similarly, foreign tourist arrivals in the state stood at about 2.3 lakh in 2011. In 2013, the same has increased to 2.6 lakh.

The Minister of Tourism, Government of Goa, Dilip Parulekar attributes this increase to GTDC’s efforts to develop the tourism industry. The tourism development firm has been undertaking marketing and promotion efforts through public relations activities, road shows and outdoor and social media campaigns. Parulekar says that the development of tourism related infrastructure too has started paying dividends. “This is a very encouraging sign and it only motivates us to put in more efforts to raise the bar,” he added.

GTDC is also trying to promote Goa as an all weather destination. Most tourist to the state visit during the high season from November to February. Now, the state is trying to get tourists in Monsoons as well. During domestic roadshows earlier this year, Goa Tourism extensively campaigned, created awareness and promoted the experience of visiting Goa during the monsoons. Some of the other highlights were the safety campaign for tourists and residents and the introduction of beach cleaning machines.
