Goa, Maha get court notices over bus permits

GOA

The high court of Bombay at Goa has issued show-cause notices to central and state government authorities and to private bus operators over the alleged illegal issue of temporary interstate permits or special permits reports Times of India (ToI).

The notices have been issued to various office bearers in Goa and Maharashtra, central government; state transport authority, Goa; state transport authority, Maharashtra; Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited; Paulo Travels and Neeta Tours and Travels.

The petition, filed in the name of Laxmi Travels, a Goan travel company, and its proprietor, Pranay Kishore Naik Salgaonkar, challenges the practice of state transport authorities in Goa and Maharashtra to issue special permits in their respective areas of operation. The petition claims that these permits are in breach of sections of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.

The temporary and special permits are issued in such a manner that they effectively operate as regular permits on regular routes, which is impermissible under the law, alleges the petition.
