Get Wi-Fi in-flight in India soon

DELHI

You may finally be able to check you emails in-flight in India. Till now, the Indian government has not allowed for Wi-Fi connectivity for air borne passengers. But a Economic Times report suggests that the government may be warming up to the idea with many foreign airlines offering the service.

The report says that India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has approached the country’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to discuss in-flight Wi-Fi citing an unnamed “senior official” from the ministry. A formal announcement is expected soon.

“The DoT has already said the proposal is possible to implement,” the official told the newspaper.

Both Vistara and SpiceJet have expressed an interest in providing in-flight Wi-Fi services. At present, only international airlines like Emirates offer in-flight Wi-Fi in India.
