Flood threat over, adventure activities resume in Kullu

MANALI

As the weather opens up and flood threats are over, Kullu administration lifted its ban on water and aero sports, including river rafting and paragliding, Monday. Ban was imposed on river rafting and paragliding under River Rafting Act 2005 and Himachal Pradesh Aero Sports Rules 2005 respectively, on July 15. According to tourism and civil aviation deputy director Ashwani Kumar, ban is imposed every year as monsoon rain, floods and high velocity winds lead to uncertainty and can be dangerous for sports lovers.

Sources said that it was after many years that Beas did not flood, and no damage to life and property has been reported. Though flood in Jammu & Kashmir affected tourism in the state, everything remained normal in Himachal Pradesh and number of tourists is expected to only increase in the coming days. “Thousands of inquiries from tourists are pouring in every day,” claim local travel agents.
