Five forts in Rajasthan to be leased out soon

JAIPUR

Following the announcement of chief minister Vasundhra Raje to lease out 35 forts in the state to the private sector to promote tourism, the department of archeology and museums has identified five forts to be leased out in the first phase.

The forts are listed with department of archaeology and museums as state-protected monuments. Among the five to be given out in the first phase are Shergarh ka Qila (along with whole fort wall) in Atru (Baran), Malkot in Merta (Nagaur), Jalore Fort, Sojat Fort in Pali, Shahabad Fort in Baran and Ramgarh Fort in Kishangarh-Bas (Alwar), reports Times of India.

While the department of tourism is in the initial stages of planning, tenders will be floated soon for expression of interest by private players under the Public Private Partnership mode. These forts would then be leased out to private players for converting them to hotels or any other tourism product for a period of 30 years. “The government is keen to involve private sector in restoration and protection of these forts in a mutually beneficial manner,” said Shailendra Agarwal, principal secretary, tourism, art & culture.
