Fire ravages Pernem municipal garden

Pernem municipal garden, situated in the heart of Pernem town, was gutted in a fire resulting in the loss of electrical lighting, material and ornamental plants besides damaging the park.

The fire erupted in the afternoon and spread to the grass and other vegetation in the park. The fire damaged the water fountains, which are an attraction, electrical lighting and ornamental plants.

Fire fighters from Pernem fire station rushed to the site and controlled the fire, preventing it from spreading to the remaining portion of the park. Almost half of the park was damaged in the incident. The cause of fire is under investigation. The park, which was in a dilapidated condition for years, was renovated at a cost of 1.5 crore and inaugurated in September 2009.
