Explore Kolkata from 354 angles

KOLKATA
Never before in the history of Kolkata have so diverse and large a group got together under the aegis of one project to capture this megapolis’ unique lifestyle and heritage on camera. ‘CamEra: Our City, Our Angle’, a photography initiative by social enterprise organization ‘banglanatak.com’ in association with The Times Of India, saw a record 354 participants from diverse backgrounds, age groups and professions registering for this pioneering project that’ll showcase Kolkata and promote the city to the outside world.

Sunday afternoon saw the participants presenting themselves at an Elgin Road address to be assigned 10 mentors – all accomplished photographers – to guide them. The participants had to choose between Kolkata’s lifestyle or heritage as their primary subjects, after which the mentors sat with them to suggest specific themes. Over the next few weeks, the participants will work closely with their mentors to click their assigned subjects ranging from ‘telebhaja’ (fritters) and the lanes of North Kolkata to the Maidan and ‘rasogollas’.
