Examine pollution at Rohtang: Tribunal

Taking cognizance of air and noise pollution at Rohtang Pass, the National Green Tribunal has said an expert committee should be set up to submit its report after a spot visit. The committee shall consist of secretary (forests), director (tourism), chief conservator of forests, Mandi divisional commissioner and an ecology expert. The tribunal has fixed September 16 as the next date of hearing.

A circuit bench of the principal bench of National Green Tribunal was held in the Himachal Pradesh high court on July 29 and 30 to deal with cases relating to environment. Tribunal chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar along with four members of the bench — Justice U D Salvi, Dr D K Agarwal, P S Rao and Ranjan Chatterjee — heard the cases and issued important directions to the government on environmental issues.
