Book 3BHK in the sky with Etihad’s A380 service starting May

MUMBAI

You can now rent an apartment in the air if you wish to travel to Abu-dhabi in style from India. Etihad Airways will deploy Airbus A380 on the Mumbai-Abu Dhabi route from May 1, 2016. With this, Mumbai will join the airline’s elite A380 enabled destinations of London, Heathrow, New York and Sydney.

A380 features 496 seats in a four class configuration-The Residence, First Apartments, Business Studios and Economy Smart Seats.

Speaking on the USP,  Neerja Bhatia, vice president, India and Indian Sub-Continent, said that A380 is all about innovation: “The Residence offers a unique proposition, which I do not think any airline offers. It is a first-of- its-kind three bed room apartment having living room, rest room with shower facility and of course a bed room.”

Etihad Airways is also taking initiatives to promote A380 to the travel trade. “We have a scheme called Super Sellers, which is for the frontline staff and this is something like loyalty programme for the travel industry,” Bhatia said. She added that she was confident that Mumbai would offer a good customer base for the product.

“The clientele in Mumbai comprises Bollywood and sports celebrities, Business Houses and high- net worth individuals. We have already started getting positive feedback  for the product,” she said.

Speaking about importance of the Indian market, Calum Laming, VP, Guest Experience, Etihad Airways, said that, India is a crucial market for them. “We serve more destinations in India than any other country on our network. We service 11 cities directly. India is burgeoning and exciting market for leisure, MICE and business segments,” he said.
