Ethanol fuel bus to run in Nagpur within the week

NAGPUR

India’s first ethanol bus will start carrying commuters in Nagpur this week. The minimum fare for the air-conditioned bus service is likely to be Rs10 for up to 4km. Already, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC)’s city transport committee has submitted a proposal for the same to the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) and is likely to get the same shortly.

“We asked for fare proposal from bus owner Scania Commercial Vehicles India Limited and forwarded it. Minimum fare is proposed at 10 up to 2km and same for 2-4km distance, with increase beyond that. The bus will be introduced for commuters after getting approval from the RTA,” City transport manager and deputy municipal commissioner Sanjay Kakade told Times of India.

The bus’s operations have been mired in controversy since the last three months It was being run free of charge for NMC school students on educational tours over the last two months.
