Erected shacks rake in moolah over weekend

PANAJI

Shack operators who were able to erect their shacks last week did bumper business during the weekend when tourists poured into Goa from all quarters. The rest are hoping to set up shacks by October 15. While the tourism department has almost completed the process of demarcation of areas on beaches to facilitate erection of shacks, on some beaches, it is yet to complete the process.

The members of shack owners welfare society (SOWS) will meet tourism director Ameya Abhyankar to request him to expedite the process of demarcation at beaches in Majorda and Baga, reports Times of India.

Cruz Cardozo, president of SOWS, told TOI that they have to erect shacks within a month of payment of fees and a security deposit. The last date for payment of fees was September 15, 2014. “So ideally, we should erect shacks before October 15, so that all are able to set up shacks within the stipulated period,” he said.
