Eiffel replica strikes a chord with AP tourists

VIJAYAWADA

A 101.6-metre tall Obelisk Tower, a replica of the world-famous Eiffel Tower, was inaugurated in Yanam recently. Built by Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) on a 14 acre-site at Guriampet overlooking the Bay of Bengal, the Rs. 27-crore project is funded by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL).

The tower provides a panoramic view of the Bay of Bengal and has a circular restaurant at a height of 40 metres.

The Obelisk Tower has become a source of inspiration for the common Telugu person, as the huge tower gives a hint of the potential that can be achieved if such tourist attractions come up in Andhra Pradesh for which the government has big plans, reports Hindu.

“If it can happen in Yanam, it can happen anywhere in Andhra Pradesh. It’s a first of its kind structure here. We can already see tourism buzzing. We sincerely hope the A.P. government comes up with such world class infrastructure. With a visionary such as Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, we hope A.P. too will get such structures soon,” said Umakanth Peri, a government teacher from East Godavari district..
