Delhi rains, heat keep film,TV shoots away

Last month, a three-day shoot schedule of the TV show ‘Gustakh Dil’ in Delhi was derailed because of heavy rains. The show’s team had finalized India Gate, Red Fort and Dilli Haat as locations for their shoot, but downpours meant that the team got to shoot for only a single day in the capital. “Our telecast date was in August, so we had no option but to come to Delhi and shoot in such weather,” Pankaj, the executive producer of the show, told us. While ‘Gustakh Dil ‘didn’t have a choice but to come and shoot in bad weather, most filmmakers prefer to stay off Delhi in July and August because of the high humidity and heat, and the rains that bring the capital to a stop.

But after August, it’s boom time. Sudhir Sobti, chief manager, PR, Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation, tells us, “Film crews usually avoid coming to Delhi during rains and the summer. Since people mostly capture outdoor shots of the city, they don’t want to take the risk. But after August, we have quite a few films lined up for shoots in Delhi.”
