Delhi metro hit by rising pollution

DELHI

Believe it or not, the rising pollution levels in the city have taken a toll on the Metro infrastructure. DMRC has had to redesign its electrical overhead equipment (OHE) set-up for the phase III to withstand the increasing pollution.

Its spokesman Anuj Dayal said, “Heavy pollution in Delhi and the rest of NCR has been posing challenges in reliable maintenance of power supply system.”

To improve the reliability of the system, DMRC is upgrading its OHE set-up. According to Dayal, Delhi Metro had conducted a pollution mapping of the localities through which the Metro network goes.

The survey by the Bengaluru-based Central Power Research Institute had identified 22% of the areas as “very heavily polluted” while another 76% were found to be “heavily polluted”.
