Delay in licencing in Goa hits shack business

PANAJI

Shack owners in the state have asked tourism department to bring forward the deadline for payment of license fees for setting up temporary structures to September 5, 2014, so as to facilitate demarcation of shacks before the commencement of the tourist season.

A delegation of the shack owners welfare society (SOWS) met tourism minister Dilip Parulekar along with Calangute MLA Michael Lobo with the request as the delay cuts into their business.

Though shack licenses are issued as per the shack policy framed in 2013 and valid till 2016, shack owners will not be allowed to erect shacks on beaches, until tourism department demarcates space for shacks.
