Coastal heritage museum opened

K.C. Venugopal, MP, launched the coastal heritage museum project at Our Lady of Assumption church at Poomkavu, near here, on Sunday.

The keys of a building, constructed by the Tourism Department for the project, were handed over to the church authorities, reports The Hindu.

Addressing the gathering, Venugopal said all religions aim at human welfare. Pilgrim centres should spread the message of love and oneness, he said.

The church will set up the heritage museum in coordination with District Tourism Promotion Council soon. The Tourism Department had spent Rs.50 lakh for constructing the building and for renovation, under its pilgrimage tourism project.

The Holy Sepulchre chapel for housing relics was also opened on the occasion. The 154-year-old church, declared as a pilgrim centre by Vatican in 2007, has relics of Holy Cross, brought from Jerusalem. There are also relics of 12 apostles at the church, the church authorities said.
