Chennai third largest hub for Britain tours

CHENNAI

Of the 3,75,000 tourists in Britain last year, a significant number was from Chennai. This was mentioned during the final lap of the road show — Great Tourism Week — which began its South India tour on August 25.

“There has been a tremendous rise in Indian tourists in the UK. After Maharashtra and Bangalore, Chennai has made it to the third position,” said Ritushri Dhanker from Visit Britain. The road show featured a special series of meetings to provide a platform for Indian travel agents and tour operators to engage and forge business ties with high profile UK tourism suppliers such as Cox and Kings, British Airways, Trafalgar Tours and Tourism Ireland.

“Most people are informed only about places like London, for instance. We need the travel agents to inform them about other places like Scotland and Brockshire,” said Patricia Yates, director, Strategy and Communications, Visit Britain.
