Chennai launches mini busses for inner roads

Last-mile connectivity woes of commuters in Chennai, at least in some of the neighbourhoods, may end as the Metropolitan Transport Corporation introduces 50 mini buses across the city. Chief minister J Jayalalithaa will flag off the buses.

For several years, successive governments have been announcing introduction of mini buses, the latest being on May 8, 2012 by transport minister V Balaji who promised 100 mini buses. However, on Wednesday, only 50 will be launched.

They will serve as feeder services and will ply mostly in the suburban areas. Apart from this, the government will launch 610 regular buses across the state.
