Chennai air passengers warned of fog delays

CHENNAI

Taking the first flight out of the city early in the morning over the coming days may not be a wise option with fog expected to envelop most parts of the country.

In case you have to be on a morning flight, airlines say it is better to check the flight status before setting out, reports The Times of India.

Flight schedules are often affected in Delhi, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Amritsar and a few other airports in the north because of poor visibility during the last week of December and first week of January every year. The delays have a trickle down effect on other airports if an aircraft is stuck in Delhi.
In Chennai, fog caused by low temperature and cold winds hits visibility at the airport in the first two weeks of January.

Last year, six aircraft were diverted and a few others were delayed after visibility dropped to less than 100m.
