Bomb threat grounds Jet flight for five hours

A Kathmandu-bound Jet Airways flight was grounded Monday afternoon after the office of the DCP (IGI) received a “threat” call, warning of a “gift box” under a seat in the aircraft. Following a security check that lasted close to five hours, the flight took off in the evening.

Officials said the call was received by the DCP’s assistant. The flight was scheduled to take off at 1.25 pm, reports The Indian Express. Airport security was immediately alerted. According to officials, the caller who identified himself as “Abdul Akhtar” had said, “A gift has been kept under seat number 18”.

DCP D K Gupta said no phone number was displayed on the caller id. A statement from Jet Airways said, “All 104 passengers and 7 crew were disembarked and taken to the departures waiting area. We apologise for the inconvenience… Security of our guests and crew is our number one priority.”
