The festive season has failed to bring a smile on the face of hoteliers and the tourism lobby in the city. If industry insiders are to be believed, the number of foreign and domestic tourists arrivals in the state has fallen by 10 to 15 % in November, which is generally considered a peak season.
“During Diwali time, we used to attract several north Indian tourists to the city due to school holidays. But this year, there is a decline in international and domestic tourists
and several three-star and four-star hotels in the city have nearly 10 to 15 rooms open. This has not happened in the past,” said Joy Peter, director (operations), Intersight Holidays.
