Better amenities planned at to draw tourists to Arippara

KOZHIKODE: With more focus on tourists’ safety, the Arippara ecotourism destination is all set for a total revamp of its amenities this fiscal. Kerala Electrical and Allied Engineering Company Limited (KEL) is expected to take up the project execution with a State government fund of ₹1.92 crore.

According to officials, the new development plan, which has already been given administrative sanction, includes the construction of a new suspension bridge across the Iruvazhinhi river, comfort stations, security cabin, and a spacious ticket counter, reports The Hindu.

The highest allocation of ₹1.76 crore is for the construction of the proposed suspension bridge, which will offer a panoramic view of the most-sought-after tourism spot in the district.

The Kodenchery panchayat authorities say the construction of the suspension bridge has been projected as one of the immediate security requirements at the location, which has a number of steep and dangerous falls. No fewer than 20 domestic tourists had lost their lives after falling into the unprotected falls, they point out.

Thampi Parakandathil, vice president of Kodenchery panchayat, says the master plan prepared by the panchayat nearly three months ago has been awaiting formal approval from the government. It got a fillip with the special interest shown by District Collector U.V. Jose, he adds.
