Baigas near Kanha reserve revive fortunes through art

The Baiga tribals from Khatiya outside Kanha National Park have revived their fortunes by drawing tourists towards ‘Bhoom’, a folk dance practised by them.

After cut in tourists vehicles by 50% to the famous tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh, Baigas were literally fighting it out for various livelihood options as there were no takers for ‘Bhoom’. “Drop in number of tourists vehicles left us in lurch, we have decided to relaunch ‘Bhoom’,” says Sonsai Baiga, group leader of Baigas.
