The changing rooms-cum-toilets built at Baga beach are expected to be thrown open to the public by September-end, in time for the new tourist season. The expenditure of 55 lakh incurred for the new toilet complex was footed by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo from his personal funds, with the Calangute panchayat also pitching in.
“The new complex was embroiled in controversy after the Goa tourism development corporation (GTDC) issued a show cause notice to the Calangute panchayat a few months ago to demolish the structure. But the tourism department, that owns the land on which the toilet complex is built, issued an NOC to the panchayat, and the matter is now resolved,” said Lobo.
