ALAPPUZHA
Work is progressing on a memorial to poet Kumaranasan at Kumarakodi, near Pallana. Asan, one of the highly acclaimed poets of Kerala, lost his life in a boat tragedy at Kumarakodi, during a trip from Kollam to Alappuzha, in 1924.
The memorial is being built in the form of a boat, reports The Hindu.
The project is being undertaken by the District Tourism Promotion Council. The idea is to develop Kumarakodi as a transit station on the Kollam-Alappuzha waterways.
Facilities will be available for berthing of two houseboats there at a time.
The memorial building will have a seminar hall, audiovisual rooms, reference library and guest rooms, according to officials.
Work on the Pallana-Kumarakodi bridge connecting Haripad to the areas on the western side of the Pallana river is in the final stages.
