VISAKHAPATNAM

If you were planning to chill out this weekend in the cool climes of Araku Valley, which is popularly known as the Ooty of AP, then you might want to hold your horses. For the picturesque valley has been teeming with tourists thanks to Dasara, favourable weather and an extended weekend starting from Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 right up to Monday.

In fact, such is the rush that nearly 200 tourist lodges (both private and public), including 160 belonging to the AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) are all sold out for the next one week. On Thursday alone, as many as 220 tourists went to Araku through APTDC and 246 tourists have booked themselves for the Araku tour on Dasara (Friday), says Times of India.

TV Sudarshana Rao, central reservation manager, APTDC, said that the number of tourists shot up to 220 on Thursday from around 70 to 80 on normal days. “All our tourist lodges are booked for the next one week. APTDC hopes to garner nearly Rs 20 lakh from Araku packages alone this month as against earnings of Rs 10 lakh to 12 lakh in any normal month,” Rao said.
