TIRUMALA: In a first of its kind in south India, the Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday issued a GO for operating helicopter services for the Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirumala and other temples.
The government instructed the collectors of Krishna, Kurnool and Chittoor districts to make helipads available for the company, Summit Aviation, for a nominal rent of Rs 1,000 per month, reports The Times of India.
Two helipads will be set up in Vijayawada and one each in Kurnool and Tirupati. “This will promote heli-tourism besides making darshan of Tirumala, Srisailam, Kalahasti and Tiruchanur devastanams easier for non-resident Telugus (NRT) also,” the order said.
Along with Tirumala, heli-tourism package will be initially available for Srisailam temple and later extended to the other major temples in the state.
