AirAsia signs deal with Amadeus


Marking a major shift in its policy that focussed on its own online reservation system, Chennai based low cost carrier AirAsia India has now signed a agreement with a third party travel booking and services company Amadeus.

Travel agents connected to the Amadeus online travel booking system – Global Distribution System (GDS) – will be able to book the airline’s fares online. AirAsia has also signed up for GDS’s light ticketing technology that lets travel agents view and compare fares in the same screen as full-service carriers.

Hazem Hussein, Amadeus Asia Pacific’s executive vice president of airline commercial, added; “India is a booming market for low-cost carriers. We are seeing more travellers who want a low cost option via their travel agency when travelling in India. AirAsia is a long term Amadeus partner and we are thrilled to see the newest venture, AirAsia India joining the partnership.”
