Air India’s cheque for Rs. 4K bounces

The national carrier issued the compensation to a city-based private company executive after he was denied boarding, but SBI dishonoured the cheque citing ‘insufficient funds’ as the reason; the airlines says it could be due to technical reasons.

Bank-rolled by the government for quite some time, India’s national carrier Air India has inventory worth crores of rupees, thousands of employees and social equity worth crores. But a cheque for Rs 4000 issued by it to a passenger towards compensation has been dishonoured. State Bank of India says there is not enough funds! Sanjay Dwivedi, an officer in a public sector undertaking, encountered this believe it or not situation to his shock and dismay last week.
