AI told to hire more, says no staff shortage

DELHI

Three months after it was pulled up for poor on-time performance (OTP) and directed by the nodal aviation ministry to hire about 800 cabin crew to maintain flight schedule, state-run Air India now says it never faced shortage of cabin staff.

An airline official said it had been advised by the aviation ministry to hire staff to overcome shortage and improve OTP. He said the low OTP was the result of staff not reporting on time and other disciplinary issues and certainly not shortage of cabin crew and pilots, reports Financial Chronicle.

Replying to a question in Rajya Sabha, aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju had last week said it was not a fact that AI was unable to meet flight schedule due to shortage of cabin crew.
