3D illusions  may be used to promote tourism

The government may soon use three-dimensional, or 3D, technology to attract tourists to the country’s monuments and other landmarks.

It hopes to begin the experiment in Delhi where it plans to use lights and 3D projectors to create an illusion that will make it seem like the lower portion of India Gate—one of the most popular destinations in the city—is disappearing right before their eyes only to reappear as a “walking” monument, said a top official in the tourism ministry, who did not wish to be named.

“We want to try something that has not been done anywhere in the world,” the official said, adding, “Once a month, the India Gate will disappear and then (re)appear to be walking like an elephant. This will be a treat to all, especially children.”
