Ahmedabad books travel ahead of Diwali

AHMEDABAD

With a weeklong break at disposal at Diwali, Amdavadis are gearing up for travel with advance bookings for Diwali holidays up by 20%-40% compared to the previous year reports Times of India.

“There is a rush for the last-minute bookings but there are no seats available to destinations like Kerala and Goa. After economic slowdown in the past two years, the mood in the market is on positive side and people are keen to travel,” said Sanjeev Chajjer, vice-president, Cox & Kings.

“Travel is clearly non-negotiable for Gujaratis and such long weekends offer great holiday potential. The upcoming Diwali weekend offers impactful opportunity for international short breaks and has further fuelled demand, witnessing an impressive upswing of over 20% in queries,” said Shibani Phadkar, senior vice-president and head – Leisure Travel, Thomas Cook (India) Ltd.

“Last year, I could not travel to Thailand which I had planned. I dropped the idea because of inflation and instead went to Goa with my wife. But this year, I am travelling to Dubai and Singapore,” said Tushar Modi, a city-based professional.

“We have reported an increase of over 30% in bookings to a diverse range of domestic favourites like North East, Coorg, Mysore, Goa, Shimla, Jaipur, Lonawla and Kerala from Gujarat,” said Rajeev Kale, president and COO- MICE, Thomas Cook (India) Ltd.
