5 member UP bus robber gang caught in Chennai

CHENNAI

A five members gang from Uttar Pradesh that targeted long-distance private buses for stealing valuables from passengers has been arrested by the police. The gang confessed to a series of thefts and robberies over the last three years said the police.

The gang members arrived at the bus terminus well in advance to scope the targets. They then booked bus tickets separately for overnight journeys and sat in different rows. Once the passengers fall asleep, they went through the bags and stole valuables passing it to one of the gang members. This member would later get down along the way while others continued on the journey to avoid suspicion informed the police narrating the gang’s modus operandi.

A special team investigating thefts in private buses zeroed in on the five men staying in a mansion at Aminjikarai on Saturday night and arrested them. They were identified as Jitender, John Mohammad, Azad, Sahawath and Aslam.

Police says that three more gang members are still absconding. All eight members of the gang are from Amarwa village in Uttar Pradesh and were staying in Chennai for at least last three years.
