KOCHI: Wonderla Holidays Ltd., the leading amusement park operator in the country, is looking to expand its operations beyond southern states to Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat.
“After successfully establishing ourselves in three locations in South India and another one proposed in the fourth state, we are now exploring the prospects in the western part of the country,” said Arun K Chittilappilly, managing director of the company, reports The Economic Times.
Wonderla, which has gone for a logo change as part of its efforts to make it a national hospitality and entertainment brand, is currently in the process of setting up its biggest amusement park in Chennai at a cost of Rs 350 crore.
“The land acquisition will be completed this year and the construction is expected to finished in 20 months,” Chittilappilly said. The company, started 17 years ago with an amusement park in Kochi, has two more in Bengaluru and in Hyderabad, which was started a year earlier.
Wonderla will invest Rs 40 crore each in its Kochi and Hyderabad parks for installing new rides for this summer vacation. ” The demonetisation impacted the visitor inflow into the parks during November. But it is back to normal now. We average around 4000 visitors in Kochi and more in Bengaluru,” he said.
The company is expecting a 30 % growth in its turnover for 2016-17 from Rs 223 crore in the previous year.
