West Bengal to boost tourism promotion

West Bengal is looking at boosting tourism to the state with ambitious marketing strategy and infrastructure development.

The state has seen increased tourist arrivals to destinations like Darjeeling, Sunderbans and Tea gardens, has witnessed a steep increase in the arrival figures. In 2012, the state received 18 lakh foreign tourists, as compared to 12 lakhs from 2011 and a total three crore domestic tourists in 2012.

As many as 11 public private partnership projects are being taken up in the Gajoldoba area, where hotels, resorts, botanical garden, spa village, golf course and water bodies will be developed. Interestingly, the government has decided to invest in roads and other infrastructure so that the bidding for the projects by the private sector improves.
