Mananthavadi in Wayanad district will host the third edition of ‘MTB Kerala 2015’, an international cross-country mountain cycling competition, organised by the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society under the Tourism Department on April 18.
Apart from India, cyclists from 15 countries, including US, France, Germany, Singapore, Armenia, New Zealand, Brunei and Mauritius will participate in the competition. About 50,000 people are expected to turn up for the event. The competition is being held as part of the Tourism Department’s special campaign called ‘Visit Kerala 2015’ to get more tourists to the state.
“The competition being hosted by the Cycling Federation of India and Wayanad District Tourism Promotion Council will be held at Priyadarshini Tea Estate at Pancharakkolli,” Tourism Minister AP Anil Kumar told reporters here. “This is for the second time that Wayanad has been chosen to host the international competition, primarily due to its immense potential as an adventure tourism destination,” Kumar said.
The circuit track passes through the mausoleum of Pazhassi Raja and the visually captivating Priyadarshini estate in Pancharakkolli. The state government is also aiming to promote tourism destinations in the state like Wagamon and Munnar in Idukki, Thenmala in Kollam and Ponmudi in Thiruvananthapuram by holding such competitions.
