Every January Gujarat celebrates the International Kite Festival around the time marking the Uttarayan day – the day when winter begins to turn into summer leading to harvest season. This year the same was celebrated between 8th and the 14th of January.
The preparations for the festival start months before with the manufacturing of kites. On the day, many cities hold kite flying competitions while Undhiyu (a mixed vegetable made of yam and beans), gajak – a sesame seed brittle and sweet and hot Jalebis are served to the crowds.
As the state’s skies get studded with colourful kites joyfully fluttering in the wind, its a sight to behold. Plan your trip for next year after watching this happy video.
