The tourists who visit Veli tourist village are dismayed. “If the waterways are maintained properly for navigation, then tourists who come by air, train or bus can be easily dropped at this destination since the international airport, Kochuveli railway station and the Central bus station are close to it,’’ KTDC staff Suresh Kumar said. He also recollected incidents of schoolchildren, especially from Tamil Nadu, slipping into the backwaters since there is no protection wall along the pathway by the side of the lagoon.

K Vijayakumaran, Deputy Director of Veli tourist village, said that the Harbour Engineering Department has invited tenders for constructing a pathway beside the lagoon up to the floating bridge, at an outlay of  Rs 1.67 crore.
