Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) will upgrade 11 bus depots in the state including the Civil Lines depot in Allahabad as a model ‘model depot’. At present the depot handles about 506 buses a day. The buses have separate entry and exit.The depot will be refurbished to include air-conditioned waiting rooms, cafetaria, food court, a commercial complex, restaurant and parking facilities.
The depot will be developed as a public private partnership (ppp). A Nagpur-based consultancy firm has already been hired for the same.
Commercial show rooms and malls too will be built on the depot premises as part of commercial complex. There are plans for a multi-purpose auditorium, chemist shops, ATMs, health centre, post office, bank and information centres to aid passengers convenience.
A shed with 500 passengers capacity to house them in adverse weather conditions, an air-conditioned waiting room for 240 passengers, food court to accommodate 250 passengers at a time, 10 enquiry counters, 10 parcel rooms and 40 booking and reservation counters are planned on the site.
