Ukraine conflict to bleed Goa tourism

The conflict in Ukraine and financial uncertainties in Europe are casting shadows over Goa’s upcoming charter tourism season.

Stakeholders in the state—basking in a “good” 2013-14 season that received 1,128 charters, Goa’s most to date, with 895 from Russia alone—are starting to writhe in worry.

While Goa received two charters a week from Ukraine during the last season, a trend seen for at least four seasons now, in the upcoming season Savio Messias, vice-president, Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG), predicts, “With Ukraine at war, there will be no charters from there.”
