Ahead of the holiday season, a section of Air India pilots is resenting a proposed 15 per cent cut in their allowances, saying that would place their pay packets below the prevailing market compensation. The pilots said such a cut would be substantial, as about 60 per cent of their total pay comprised allowances.
Airline officials said allowances were being reduced by 15 per cent for all sections of employees of the cash-strapped state-owned air carrier, including the pilots, adding the final salary would be decided only after negotiations with cockpit crew were over.
