Travel cos foresee sports tourism rising

MUMBAI

Jaydeep Raval, 34, is an ardent Formula 1 fan who is busy planning his trip for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix scheduled in November 2014. “Passion for this sport drives me to spend the money and watch the event live where the excitement and thrill is at a different level altogether,” says the Ferrari fan who will travel with a group of four like-minded F1 fans.

Raval is talking to travel companies to get the best deals for the races. “Incidentally, it was a travel package ad which triggered our first trip to watch F1 and then there has been no racing event that we missed live,” he says. Travelling for a sporting event with your family and friends is coming of age in India with several of them flying down for expensive events such as the Formula 1, Wimbledon and the Olympics.
