VISAKHAPATNAM
Workers of various tourism department units are up in arms, demanding that the department first clear pending salaries and then organize the three-day Araku Utsav slated to be held between November 28 and 30 at Araku in Visakhapatnam agency.
More than 100 workers of the tribal community are working in the tourism department’s units at various places in the agency, pointed out Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Visakhapatnam rural unit leader V Uma Maheswara Rao.
“The department had utilised their services without a break but has not paid their salaries for the last seven months. We demand that the department first clear the pending salaries of the workers and then go for the utsav. If their demand is not addressed before the utsav, these workers will be ready to protest in front of the tourism spots against the department’s apathy towards addressing their demand,” Rao said.
